If I were to praise Babe Ruth, I would have to focus on his athletic abilities, his pitching, hitting and such. I would not mention his faults, nor the irrelevant aspects that did not have to do with baseball. With praise to God, I suspect we also would be well off not focusing on Israel and the faults and weaknesses of that nation, but on the very nature of Yahweh who is the “I AM”. We can then focus on His purposes for all people, His use of Israel to establish His person and the extension of Himself in the temple, worship and, yes, even the laws that many today find “intolerable”. He is the creator and the one who defines life and the one who saves and gives back the lives that are lost. He is to be worshipped, not at the temple though it would be a good idea, but in the depths of our hearts when rejoicing is to be found.
