Matthew 11:28 "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light."
A yoke is an attachment to the neck of an oxen or sometimes even other beasts of burden to set them on their tasks for a master. I tend to resist anyone else’s tasks as for myself. How do you handle that offer? “I will give you rest” with my yoke on you is what Jesus is offering us. Looks like being gentle and humble is the yoke we are offered. Is that a way to run the manufacturing plant, the office, the school or even the church? Can you think of someone for whom a strong word, a firm challenge would really be better than a soft answer and a caring spirit? How would that work for you? Can we really believe that Jesus’ yoke fits well on our necks?
