Romans 6:12-13 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, to make you obey its passions. Do not present your members to sin as instruments for unrighteousness, but present yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life, and your members to God as instruments for righteousness. For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace.
I have been watching little babies grow into young children. There seems to be a couple things that happen. First they learn some behaviors are not OK. A voice speaks, a hand slaps, a time out occurs and a lesson is given. Then, they learn to watch out for that behavior to not be noticed! It is not that they do not do that anymore, they actually learn to hide the behavior as much as possible. That means that the parents and other older folks are also watching. The watching is a form of law. And the behavior that has been hidden takes on a different meaning: they are now consciously law breakers! This is even more skilled in the hands of us adults. We even hide the behavior under excuses, accidents or such to keep us from being (in our eyes and hearts) sinful. The alternative to all of this is to present ourselves as children to our God for His personal guidance on a daily basis. For most of us, that may seriously cut down the nature and negative value of some of our sins, but it does not remove the sin that is living there. For sin to not exist means that God is now the guidance factor for us and for Him as well. Lord pour forth your heart of renewal, grace, mercy and forgiveness as the covering on my life!
