1 John 5:21 Dear children, keep yourselves from idols.
The scriptures of these last days seem to be a calling of our attention to the ongoing battles in the inner persons. The World, Baal, Satan and now idols are all beating on us and the question or challenge is to avoid, deny and overcome their influence when they are all a part of our daily living. For many, they are the dominant pictures of our living. The challenge of finances whether we have the money or not is always a challenge of values and purpose. The challenge of life in family is always about me or she, us or them and the purpose for all. The community around us, those we are living with will always include some challenges of focus and care where the idols of this world work to tear us apart. Keeping ourselves from idols is not an easy task, but the purpose of prayer and study – awareness – that offers hope in the face of discouragement and fear. I John 5:20 We know also that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know him who is true. And we are in him who is true by being in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life. To win this battle, we need to keep Jesus in the center of our lives. Period.
