The Tomb

John 19:41 At the place where Jesus was crucified, there was a garden, and in the garden a new tomb, in which no one had ever been laid.

I always thought of the garden as a way away from Gethsemane, but here it is put near. But the place of crucifixions was right outside the city where many would pass. This garden then would belong to someone who could be outside the city and yet close enough to be of value such as a Joseph of Arimathea who opened this option. And it was a new tomb, prepared for someone else, but ready for the savior of the world. Not one for revolving use: e.g. first father, then son, then son then…. No this is now for Jesus who would not stay long at that. Do you think Joseph suspected that? I doubt it, but God knew. Now we do too. We do not need to stay in the grave, but are invited to look forward to the graves being empty of nothing more than memories that are replaced by LIFE ETERNAL. Give us all such a grave Lord.
