Hebrews 9:14 How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death, so that we may serve the living God!
How does the blood cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death? First I ask what kinds of conscience issues lead to death? In general I would leap to those things that we hide. In today’s world many things that were hidden in the past are dancing in front of us. Sexual misbehavior is almost celebrated in some sections of our society. Financial twists and turns are accepted behaviors. Drug use is a doctor prescribed behavior. How does the blood of Jesus Christ cleanse consciences so that we can serve? He allows us to open the hidden, fearful places that either hide in denial or wave frantically to deny their sinfulness. He has opened the way to approach the Father as broken, hurting children so that we may know the freedom of life when He does the cleansing and healing and forgiving. If I can acknowledge the sin I live with, I can find a door to leave it in His mercy and walk to the Father free from at least one deadly influence.
