Psalm 91:1 Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. 2 I will say of the LORD, "He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust." 3 Surely he will save you from the fowler's snare and from the deadly pestilence. 4 He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.
I suspect that the love of God was known to more than just a few before Jesus showed up. This passage could not be written by one living in the fear of the law and the God of Judgement that most of us put in the times of the Patriarchs, Judges and Prophets. The Lord took them out of Egypt and captivity. The Lord gave them leaders who served Him with trust such as David and Daniel and Joseph. The key for all of these was that such life did not happen quickly, but in a life of testing, troubles and turning to Yahweh. Are we yet ready to walk fully under the shelter of Jesus? Do we think that a “sortof, kindof, mostly” walk will do? Let us DWELL in His shelter and find rest.
