ASKING

Matthew 7:7-11 “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.” 8 For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened. 9 Or which one of you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone? 10 Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent? 11 If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!

Just in case you didn’t notice: ASK is Ask Seek Knock in English!! But in my world, going to the bank and asking for money is not automatic. Neither is begging from relatives or friends or the church. All of these may well respond, but the issue here is our Father God. And the real issue is not need, but our vision of Father. Does He care that the Christian woman in Uganda is in risk of her life and begging for her children’s care? Does He hear the pleas from the hospital for the young teen with terminal cancer? Our experience says: only occasionally. These pleas are sometimes answered and with the same (as we see it) faith, NO. Can we trust Him then? I turn to this story: Jesus died. Jesus sent disciples to die for us to know the love of God. We have received His presence in our lives. Maybe the “it” is Him that we are seeking. Not the human limits we are facing, but the unbelievable (at this time) vision of The Creator, Ruler, Father, Lover, Redeemer who is for us. What do I really want/need? You?
