Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ
Genesis 14:18 Then Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine. He was priest of God Most High, 19 and he blessed Abram, saying, "Blessed be Abram by God Most High, Creator of heaven and earth. 20 And praise be to God Most High, who delivered your enemies into your hand." Then Abram gave him a tenth of everything.
Three Questions: Who was this “Melchizedek”?, Why would Abram give anything to him? and What is this 10% business? Practically there are some hints in the preceding story. Abram had just won a tough battle saving family and allies. The bread and wine (hint, hint) show the giving nature of this King who welcomed a warrior into his presence. And surely the 10% is a sign of trust in the one to whom it is given. As we go through our battles of life, has not the Lord shown His welcome to us with bread and wine and have we not turned over portions of our lives to Him in trust of His goodness. The amount is a good start to the ultimate surrender of all we have as Abraham turned all his hope on the mountain with his son over to God. (Genesis 22). It is all about our relationship to our King!
