What Light Should Shine?

Mark 4:21 He said to them, "Do you bring in a lamp to put it under a bowl or a bed? Instead, don't you put it on its stand? For whatever is hidden is meant to be disclosed, and whatever is concealed is meant to be brought out into the open. 23 If anyone has ears to hear, let them hear." And [Jesus] said to them, “Pay attention to what you hear: with the measure you use, it will be measured to you, and still more will be added to you.”

This is offered after the parable of the sower. So the measuring has to do with the issue of fruit. I think of organizations where the issue is the money or people drawn together or product delivered and such. In the parable, the goal is always people who receive the joy of the Lord and His presence. Are we measuring the joy and fullness of the people around us? Are we seeking reminders of encounters with our Savior? Is there a sign of something more than people gathered on a Sunday or whenever? Could it be that what the Lord will be after would be people living in trust and renewal in the front of the broken and empty world that does not understand trust and fruit of life in the face of death and deadly practices? Lord, let me not just see a part of the reconciliation and renewal of your kingdom but all the bigger the renewal of the broken, the healing of the hurting and the joy of the new hope you bring to all. Let the light of Your glory shine in us, your redeemed!
