Baptism is a gift from God. As Jesus was raised, so we are offered new life from God. This basic. Many Christians are blessed to offer themselves to baptism because they now believe the gift is real. It is real. It is from God to His people for their full awareness of the work of Jesus unto salvation – the life we live with God’s presence in this broken world. The point I am making if not obvious is that Baptism is the gift from God which conveys the gift of Jesus to the person receiving it. That it is seen as a choice on the part of many people is a real thing that we can rejoice in, but the first order of business is that it is God’s gift freely offered to all. Even as Jesus died and rose for all, the gift is for all. A new life from the Father through the Son.
