1 John 4:17 This is how love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment: In this world we are like Jesus. 18 There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.
This proclamation is clearly from a time when people are given trouble, even challenged to die for the reality of Jesus and the God who loves. Fear is a normal reaction to threat. The Love of God is perfect. He truly saves, pays for our sins and offers fellowship with Himself both now and forever. The forever part can cover some levels of fear. It cannot fully cover the challenge of major surgeries with pain and recovery or the pain of physical threat, but it can cover the fear of death that may follow any of these things. I need help with fear on urban roads!! The perfect love is that which we know has been in the Father from the beginning, but fulfilled in Jesus. He faced the opposition to the world knowing the pain, but even more knowing the fellowship of the fullness of God. So may we facing a world that offers fear without fear.
