Two Praises

Psalm 150:1 Praise the LORD. Praise God in his sanctuary; praise him in his mighty heavens. 2 Praise him for his acts of power; praise him for his surpassing greatness. 3 Praise him with the sounding of the trumpet, praise him with the harp and lyre, 4 praise him with timbrel and dancing, praise him with the strings and pipe, 5 praise him with the clash of cymbals, praise him with resounding cymbals 6 Let everything that has breath praise the LORD. Praise the LORD.

The first praise is factual and relational: tell the audience (self, others, the world) that God is LORD, that God is separate from us -sanctuary-, that God is over all of creation in a place we cannot enter (yet), that God has shown His power in our experience and that God, the Lord is not measured by our standards of good, better or best. The second half is to put it to the heart and soul of people with music of all kinds. We are hearing more and more of this in the Hymnals of churches, in the sounds of the “Praise groups” in congregations and over the sound sources of the electronic ages. In all cases it is Praise.
