Isaiah 61:4 They will rebuild the ancient ruins and restore the places long devastated; they will renew the ruined cities that have been devastated for generations.
When Jesus shared in Nazareth, He quoted the first verses of Isaiah 61, so this is also part of the mission He was and is on. The geography of this prediction seems to be Jerusalem and Israel, but what if the total picture is of the ruined earth, the original plan of humanity? What if, in this Messianic renewal, the mission of the people who are His is to proclaim freedom, release and rebuilding for all? Most of us, have limited ourselves (I am one of these) to individual and community renewal, but what if the larger call is to renew the heritages, structures and futures of the communities we are renewing? Would that broaden our visions or do we already have a sign of new hope in our hearts? Is Jesus still at work here?
