Wheat!

John 12:23 Jesus replied, "The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified. 24 Very truly I tell you, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds.

In the 1980’s we were a part of the group called Teens Encounter Christ in No. Minnesota. The group of people who served the kitchen, cleaning, and all the efforts that supported what the participants saw were called “Wheat”. In order to be effective in that role, the idea was that “it was not about you”. We were to be about the others. Jesus was not about Himself, He was for us, for The Father, for the Disciples and totally for the lost and broken world of Jew, gentile, Roman, Greek and the other billions of us who did and will inhabit this world. He died that life might come to our dead purposes, dead accomplishments and dead, even aimless skills. Are we able to ask that He uses us even to the point that we don’t really matter for the sake of others? Are we wheat?
