Proverbs 6:16-19 There are six things that the Lord hates, seven that are an abomination to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that make haste to run to evil, a false witness who breathes out lies, and one who sows discord among brothers.
I could not be sure which of the list is actually less than an abomination but in my heart it would be the feet that runs to evil because it is the one that shows the least affect on those around us. All the rest hurt fellowship, break commandments and most significantly make an effort to hurt God’s people. This reflects the fact that what is to happen in our lives is not just to love God and keep His commandments, but along with that is the very real desire on the part of Our Father to have us recognize each other in the pains of this world. This does cover much of what it is meant that we Love God, and Love Our Brethen. God’s real test is not just that we say we love Him, but it really is tested when we say we love those around us and we do the tough personal attacks of these sins. None of these “sins” are directed against The Father, but His children for whom He was to give His life outside Jerusalem. Does that say something about God and His personal involvement in the world and our prejudices?
