Joshua 13:33 But to the tribe of Levi, Moses had given no inheritance; the LORD, the God of Israel, is their inheritance, as he promised them.
The tribes of Israel upon ending the takeover of Canaan were granted 12 sections for each tribe. But the tribe of Moses and Aaron, the Levites received the promise of encounters with Almighty God, Yahweh. They were to pray, sacrifice, order the worship and keep the seasons for and with the people. This was not a punishment, but an inheritance of purpose and privilege for the nation. Oh, by the way, today all who know the Lord are part of the priesthood and temple of the Lord.
