Sing!

Exodus 15:20-21 Then Miriam the prophetess, the sister of Aaron, took a tambourine in her hand, and all the women went out after her with tambourines and dancing. And Miriam sang to them: “Sing to the Lord, for he has triumphed gloriously; the horse and his rider he has thrown into the sea.”

If you do not know the story, please look it up in Exodus – from Exodus 7 to 15. The power of God against the power, authority and army of Egypt. You may miss the power of Egypt because the story seems to be about the power of God, but notice that it took a long time and 9 direct attacks to get to where they were released. We also may miss the power of sin and darkness because it seems to take a lot of pain and distress to realize the power of sin and darkness in our world. When women are made slaves, when men are trapped by fear and weakness, when drugs and alcohol drive families apart, when children are no longer welcome and lies are better than inconvenient truths, the freedom may take a bit to get used to. We need to see a moment when the horse and rider are dethroned by the empty tomb of the crucified Lord. Then sing.
