Predestination?

Ephesians 1:4 For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love 5 he predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will— 6 to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves.

First of all, this is not about predestination, but purpose! But since many in our world seem to find (what I do not) encouragement in the words “chose” and “predestined”, I want to say a bit. If you are chosen, it is not for some great afterlife, but for a holy and blameless living now. If you are adopted, perhaps it is for current sonship (family membership) now in your living. The purpose of these precious words is to note the intent of God for all His people as we have heard His gospel of love and the sacrifice of Jesus. It is not to make us set better than others, but for His gifts to be greatly honored and praised. That is predestined in God’s purposes.

As we approach the National day for Thanks Giving lets give thanks for all those people who are working for us that we don’t even know.
