2 Chronicles 35:21 But Necho sent messengers to him, saying, "What quarrel is there, king of Judah, between you and me? It is not you I am attacking at this time, but the house with which I am at war. God has told me to hurry; so stop opposing God, who is with me, or he will destroy you." 22 Josiah, however, would not turn away from him, but disguised himself to engage him in battle. He would not listen to what Necho had said at God's command but went to fight him on the plain of Megiddo. 23 Archers shot King Josiah, and he told his officers, "Take me away; I am badly wounded."
Josiah had just committed an enormous amount of sacrifice from his great stores of the Kingdom to a worship of serious awe. He opened his heart and soul to worship the Lord and it was wonderful, worthy of mention forever (2 Chronicles 35:1-19). Then a war broke out near him with the King of Egypt and a neighbor. There is no sign that the Lord told him to go to that battle. He did not go as the King of his nation, but under disguise??? No motive is given. Maybe pride? Maybe a sense of responsibility to the people on the Euphrates (a fair distance from Israel, but on the path between Israel and Egypt) at Megiddo. And there he was wounded. Our battle is for the hearts of those for whom Jesus died. Our battle is not always the obvious ones the world is fighting. Our battle is to tell the Love of God where He is not known. Have you been wounded in the wrong battle?
