Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. 12 Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. 13 You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. 14 I will be found by you," declares the LORD, "and will bring you back from captivity. I will gather you from all the nations and places where I have banished you," declares the LORD, "and will bring you back to the place from which I carried you into exile."
When things finally go well, I can then renew my finances, rebuild my family and even improve my occupation. Whoops, “my…my…my”. When things finally go well, then I am able to seek the Lord anew, walk in His ways and see my true home, not in just a place, but a pattern of life. The exile was not just away from Israel, but toward a renewal of the way of life that was meant to happen before they were taken away. If Israel is back where that people belong, they are also called to seek with heart and self. And the place they settle is not just the home they left, but the task they left when they were taken. Have we moved from the selfish place where we fell to where we are able to stand and proclaim love to each other and praise to our Father, His Son and that poorly defined presence called the Spirit?
