Colossians 3:9 Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices 10 and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.
The foundation of this challenge is that there is some sort of transformation in us that is not complete. The possibility of lying to each other is there (or Paul would not have warned us about it), but the new self is also there who should not do such. We may not be subject to “the law” as such, but the battle for the new self in Christ is being fought both within and without in all of us. When Jesus’ love and grace touch us and we recognize Him, we are changed, but the world is still with us, without us and within us. He is present in The Holy Spirit and the ancient enemy is well with us also to destroy that relationship as well as possible. The best defense is to be open interpersonally with one another to give protection from the outside in. We are not laws to one another, but walls of protection, honestly facing the world of self-deception.
