1 Corinthians 15:48 As was the earthly man, so are those who are of the earth; and as is the heavenly man, so also are those who are of heaven. 49 And just as we have borne the image of the earthly man, so shall we bear the image of the heavenly man.
Could I ever be “like Jesus”, the heavenly man? Certainly not on my own, but is that not the purpose of Jesus coming in on our lives? To transform us, not just with the call to trust, but ultimately the call to transformation of our very being. For me, the truth is that the heavenly persona is not too realistic at the moment. I am only 80. But the call is true that I no longer want to be just “an earthly man”. I do want my heart to care deeply for what The Father is doing, who The Father is and The Kingdom He rules. In this earthly man, that vision is not entirely clear, but the desire to not be bound by earthly limits grows each time the earthly experience hurts. And it does hurt more than I care to admit. Let that last promise be one you and I desire: “ so shall we bear the image of the heavenly man.”
