Matthew 26:20 When evening came, Jesus was reclining at the table with the Twelve. 21 And while they were eating, he said, "Truly I tell you, one of you will betray me." 22 They were very sad and began to say to him one after the other, "Surely you don't mean me, Lord?" 23 Jesus replied, "The one who has dipped his hand into the bowl with me will betray me. 24 The Son of Man will go just as it is written about him. But woe to that man who betrays the Son of Man! It would be better for him if he had not been born." 25 Then Judas, the one who would betray him, said, "Surely you don't mean me, Rabbi?" Jesus answered, "You have said so."
One of you! And Jesus knew! He let him go. At least I might have said, “Think it over my dear friend Judas.” But Jesus did give the warning and I get the feeling that Judas did not really think that the trip to the garden would result in the death of the Lord. Did he really think that this would give Jesus the chance (?) to make his appearance before the leaders and they would bow to him?? Did he not see the threat? I cannot answer that, but I can understand that he did not mean to bring about the death of Jesus. To hang himself is a cry for despair and hopelessness which should not have been in his heart after walking with Jesus. Do we not know that there is mercy in the heart of our Lord for us to come back even after we have blundered into tragedy? Peter fed the sheep.(Acts 2) David got up and ate. (2 Samuel 12:20) And Elijah anointed Elisha. (1 Kings 19:19-21). We can return. Please do.
