Who Did It
Ephesians 5:25-27 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her 26 to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, 27 and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless.
“I am the head of my family”. “I love my wife and she needs to submit to me as the scripture says (see 5:20ff). Most who make these kinds of claims do not give me the feeling that they have given “themselves up for her”. The headship of Jesus Christ was in the death and sacrifice of His glory, status in the universe, and place as one with God. He did this so that those who come to Him might be cleansed, freed and sent as new in His gift. These are days when many women have been broken, used and marked by the ethos of the times. What a great time for men to stand and present the broken as new and clean by their actions and words! And what a great time for the church of Jesus Christ to recognize the mutual brokenness of His people in His gifts of cleansing and sending. Let us rejoice in the vision of our Lord for His people, the church.
