Not Just….

1 Timothy 5:14 So I counsel younger widows to marry, to have children, to manage their homes and to give the enemy no opportunity for slander. 15 Some have in fact already turned away to follow Satan. 16 If any woman who is a believer has widows in her care, she should continue to help them and not let the church be burdened with them, so that the church can help those widows who are really in need.

This is that messy area where there are no clear rules, but the point of the call is to make every effort to be guided by the heart of God for others. To insist that the church should not take care of widows because there are members who should do it, is to miss the point of this directive. The guidance has to do with doing our best before asking others to do the work needed. It is an act of love to not dump a task on others that we are able to take on ourselves. The heart of God for those around us is that we would give of ourselves that others would be free to give of themselves (us , then the “church”). I can just see some congregation with resources quoting this passage for some aware limited widow that she do more so that they can do less. WRONG! Let us each see that we take care of what we can to free up others who may do less. More is expected by the Lord to whom much is given it seems. Huh?
