From The Beginning
Genesis 27:18 He went to his father and said, "My father." "Yes, my son," he answered. "Who is it?" 19 Jacob said to his father, "I am Esau your firstborn. I have done as you told me. Please sit up and eat some of my game, so that you may give me your blessing."
I do not buy the idea that God sets some apart for Himself and lets others sit out the blessings, but….!! Esau was first born. Esau was a hunter. From his birth, Jacob was the usurper. And in the end, Esau went out on his own, became a rival nation to that of Jacob. Was this something that was not his fault? We also note that he chased the women around him and Jacob went to the family for continuity of family. I buy that the nature of the person also counts for how the Lord directs. The nephews of Esau sold their brother into slavery and still were part of the heritage called by God. In the end, it is from the heart of us that life does get received from the Lord but it does help to be open to what He offers. From the beginning Esau was the heart of self and it showed. The brothers of Joseph did repent and give hope to the nation that was to come.
