Witnesses or Jesus
Hebrews 12:1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, 2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
I remember the line that there is a crowd of heroes of the faith such as listed in Hebrews 12 watching us and cheering us on. But as I read the passage it seems to me that my eyes and ears should be focused on Jesus who suffered, died and rose for the joy before Him. Which should I focus on in my life, the living Jesus who went through more or at least as much as all the folks listed or those folks whose faith carried them through more than I might ever have to carry. Which grabs your attention?
