Oh, Oh…
Matthew 2:14 So he got up, took the child and his mother during the night and left for Egypt, 15 where he stayed until the death of Herod. And so was fulfilled what the Lord had said through the prophet: "Out of Egypt I called my son." 16 When Herod realized that he had been outwitted by the Magi, he was furious, and he gave orders to kill all the boys in Bethlehem and its vicinity who were two years old and under, in accordance with the time he had learned from the Magi.
Of all the Christmas stories, this one hurts! All the little boys under two killed because the Savior goes off to Egypt just like the family of Jacob did so many, many years before. They were “saved” as Joseph’s family was while others in Canaan died and these babies did. Anyone else have a problem with this set of events? The selfishness, greed, hate and such in the world will always have consequences that we cannot understand. In many parts of the world believers and innocents are dying because some peoples are so desirous of power and hateful of others that they kill and destroy. That is why they need to know their Savior and Lord. This is not a failure of God, but of the evil in the world that He has given Jesus for. Are we hurting others for what we see as our goals in life? Oh, Oh!
