Mine!

Numbers 3:44 The LORD also said to Moses, 45 "Take the Levites in place of all the firstborn of Israel, and the livestock of the Levites in place of their livestock. The Levites are to be mine. I am the LORD. 46 To redeem the 273 firstborn Israelites who exceed the number of the Levites, 47 collect five shekels for each one, according to the sanctuary shekel, which weighs twenty gerahs. 48 Give the money for the redemption of the additional Israelites to Aaron and his sons."

First of all, the idea that certain people belong to God as special over the rest of His people is not the conclusion to come to from this passage. It was for that time. The disciples who were apostles were trained by Jesus to set all of His people to be “special” in the world to bring the Kingdom of God to all peoples for all peoples. The call to serve God in our lives is real, current and universal when the Kingdom is present in our lives. That there are leaders is clear enough, but that they are somehow entitled to special tithes and such is not affirmed in the New Testament. Pay for earned effort is OK, 1Ti 5:18 For Scripture says, "Do not muzzle an ox while it is treading out the grain," and "The worker deserves his wages." Be kind to each other is even harder than just taking $$$! Today He calls His servants “Mine” who lift up each other and reach to the world on His behalf.
